We are a web, mobile, and desktop Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and systems development agency. In addition, we specialize in user experience/graphic design, 3D modeling / rendering / animation, and 3D application development.
We work with governments, universities, non-profits, commercial enterprises, and other agencies, helping these to make optimal use of the geospatial data available to them. We take ideas from anything from architectural elevations to a sketch on a paper napkin, and make them come to life in three dimensions.
Hello there, I’m Byron! I am a full-stack web, mobile, and desktop Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and systems engineering consultant. "Full-stack" engineering means that I design and produce not only GIS applications, but also the system upon which they depend to access data and provide security. I read and write English, Spanish, and several programming and scripting languages fluently. In addition, I am an expert architectural and topographical 3D modeler. My 3D modeling work has been featured on multiple occasions in marketing materials for Presagis, a leading software provider in the 3D modeling and simulation industry.
I love playing and watching golf, football, basketball, and pretty much all things sports. I’m primarily based in Rochester, New York, but I like to spend the winter months in Phoenix (if you’re from the northeast, you can probably guess why).
I started down the path that lead to my career as a GIS software engineer over 10 years ago as a highway and civil site designer at an architectural engineering firm in Rochester, New York. I’ve always loved learning about emerging technologies, and I sat directly across from the company’s GIS department, which focused on providing analysis and developing mapping solutions for utility companies. This played a part in my decision to take the initiative to learn more about software development, and as a result I went on to become a software developer and three dimensional architectural modeling artist in the firm’s Visualization and GIS departments. This gave me an opportunity to lead a number of development projects for major public agencies and nationwide corporations, including Target, Walmart, the New York State Department of Transportation, and the Port Authority of NY/NJ (for the World Trade Center reconstruction project), among many others.
In 2008, I decided to take the plunge and begin my career offering consulting services as a GIS systems engineer independently. From a corner in the single bedroom of an apartment has grown the thriving agency with dedicated, highly skilled developers, analysts, and support staff that is Byron W. Jones Geospatial.
